Seva Foundation Joining together in the spirit of service Seva (say-va) is a Sanskrit word for service. Seva Foundation was formed in 1978 with a mission to alleviate suffering caused by disease and poverty. Working in nine countries in addition to the United States, Seva Foundation provides financial resources and technical expertise to help communities build sustainable solutions poverty and disease. Donations made through this event will be earmarked for use in Seva's programs in India. The projects evolve, but the approach is always the same — building partnerships that respect the cultures and traditional wisdom of the people served, and focusing on solutions that can be sustained by local communities. Sight Program: Seva works to prevent blindness and restore sight in India, Nepal, Tibet, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Egypt, Tanzania and Guatemala. In the past year alone, Sevas upported programs served over 500,000 people in some of the world's poorest communities, including 30,000 people who had cataract surgery to restore their eyesight. Community Self-Development: Seva helps indigenous communities in Guatemala and Mexico develop their capacity to meet basic needs and create solutions to poverty and injustice. Over the past year, Seva-supported programs brought new opportunities to over 60,000 people. Native American Program: Seva is proud to support Native American projects across the United States. Our Grants Program funds grassroots work in the areas of health, environmental restoration, community development, spiritual and cultural renewal, and treaty rights protection. Our Diabetes Wellness Program is helping Native Americans overcome a deadly epidemic with an innovative blend of modern medicine and traditional forms of healing.
